An Appeal: Please Help this Blogger | මේ බ්ලොග්කරුවාට උදව් වෙමු

It is a sheer coincidence that I highlight two disabled individuals today. (‘Differently-abled’ is the politically correct term, but I wish to remain politically incorrect) One is a Tamil and a girl. The other is a Sinhalese and a boy. Both are roughly the same age.

If you are a blogger you may want to skip this, as you already know the story. If you are a reader, please carry on.

Dilum Dissanayake (aka Ilandariya), a Sinhala blogger, is suffering from profound sensory neural hearing loss for a period of one and half years. This hearing loss cannot be improved with medical treatment, according to his doctor, Dr. D. S.C. (Shantha) Perera, MBBS, MS, DLO, FRCS, Consultant ENT & Head and Neck Surgeon, National Hospital of Sri Lanka, Colombo. Other details are given in the following two posts by Dukaa and the blogger himself. The solution, surgical treatment with Cochlear implant, it seems, will cost about Rs. 3 million.

අපි හැම දෙනාම එක්වෙමු – ඉලන්දාරියාට උදව් වෙමු.

නිහඬ ලොව බිඳින්න

Dilum, who dreams to be a TV producer, will not achieve that sans hearing and the voice, which he is gradually losing.

When I saw the following comment by Supun Budhajeewa, a young Sinhala/English blogger and a Linux enthusiast, I suggested that if he cannot donate in money he could in kind. My request to him was to setup an easy way for my readers to contribute.

Supun took the challenge but pointed out that PayPal does not allow Sri Lankan accounts. He also suggested we bring his friend Narada Thomas or ‘ИДЯДDД ΓHФMДS’ (better known as ‘Binku’ in the blogosphere) in. Binku, another Sinhala blogger and a fine arts student from Kanata, Canada readily agreed and both of them together devised the system.

My role here is only promotion. Binku is in touch with Dukaa and Dilum and will transfer what he collects.
We have no high hopes. If this effort by three of us (Binku, Supun and Taboo) collects US$ 1,000 (roughly Rs. 1,00,000) we are happy and treat our part done.

For donations please use this link. If you wish to remain anonymous please let Binku know by a mail to narada[at]love[dot]com.

I urge all readers of the blog Taboo Subjects to join hands with the Sinhala Bloggers by contributing to this worthy task. Many thanks in advance.

Thanks both Supun and Binku
